Summer Time, but some things keep cooking

If there were no calendars, you could still tell it's summer and holiday time, as the pulse in the Terragen forums has slowed down a bit recently. But despite, or maybe even because of that holiday time, some individuals get creative.
Moodflow is back - sort of - with a brutally realistic teaser image showing a new image based displacement technique, for which he didn't specify any details yet on how it's done.
Walli is in the process of finalizing his new "Dry bushes" pack, which will of...

We thought that some of the NWDA artwork could be good candidates for Firefox Persona, a new browser skinning technology that allows you to switch browser skins in an instant.
Based on the "Germany Skies" render, we created a persona which is free for you to use. Check this out and maybe you enjoy wearing it for a while: http://www.getpersonas.com/persona/32963

NWDA Image Contest

Our current NWDA image contest is progressing well, numerous individuals are in the process of working and tweaking their contest entries, and a few have already been submitted. Unlike other contests, participants can freely post their work in progress and use peer review to get tips and advice for improvement, before they will submit their final work to our contest gallery.
The gallery shows four great images already submitted, and an estimated 10 other renders are progressing every day, as...

If you know Terragen 2, you also know Planetside Software and the company's website at http://www.planetside.co.uk.
The website has been entirely refurbished since the release of Terragen 2, and now the planetside team has added a very useful Terragen Resources page here. The web page lists resources like products for TG2, Render Farms, Render Managers, 3rd party applications and tools, communities and other resources.

Inspiration: Begin with the end in mind!

All artists are hungry for new sources of inspiration. In the Terragen world, we are no different. Links to websites that have inspiring photography of landscapes are posted in the forums often. I recently came across "Landscapes 2.0". It is a pure photography gallery of the most awesome landscapes, often touched up for HDR shots, but in any case most of the images posted there are real beauties.
If you are looking for inspiration at the moment, pay them a visit. Otherwise, make sure you...

Hurry, 3DEM may disappear soon

The free 3DEM is going to disappear, according to its website. After May, the download may not be available anymore. Chances are that someone may offer to mirror the file somewhere, but you never now before it happens. 3DEM is an application that reads all sorts of digital elevation data, many of which can be downloaded for free in various locations on the web. These sets of real world elevation data can be read and transformed into Terragen's .ter format for heightfields by using 3DEM.
So...

Today's Terragen highlight to me - besides launching TU's canyon & rock surface pack here at NWDA - clearly was Buzzzzz "Cloisters & Ivy" render. If you happened to have missed that, definitely go check it out.
Buzzzzz also explained how to effectively use the free of charge Ivy generator with 3D models imported and rendered into Terragen 2, by using Poseray (also free) to merge the 3D model and the Ivy object.
The Terragen user base is expanding pretty fast these days. I believe that...

The new free plant sample

It was easy to miss, actually. A few days back, Planetside made an announcement in their forums that the new plant sample would be available for download. It comes with:

                3 variations of ferns
                3 grass patches
                A gnarled old pine
standard pine tree with 3 variations.
